Child Insurance
Child insurance is unusual. You would not, under normal circumstances, expect your child to need to be covered. However, once might need to consider child health insurance, especially if you do not have access to free health care for your child. You might want to look at the economics of taking out a family policy as opposed to one for a single child. You could get much better value for money by doing that. Some States have now made it possible for Children to have their own health plans.
So why should your child be covered?
Putting aside the worst case where your child becomes ill and urgently requires treatment, consider the day to day problems that could be avoided if you had adequate health cover. Many common childhood illnesses can go untreated if no health cover is available. And side from treating the condition itself, one should also be aware that some conditions can impair a child's mental and physical development. Some studies show that one in ten kids suffer from some form of emotional or behavioural problem that would benefit from treatment. Unfortunately, only one in five of these children receive such treatment. Many health insurance plans have mental health components which could help under these circumstances.
Then there is the subject of immunisation. A policy of immunisation helps protect your child and the community from the effects of potentially devastating illnesses. Children who do not have health insurance often do not receive these vaccines, and are put at risk as a result.
Furthermore, heath insurance can mean that your child can have regular check ups, to ensure their continued well being and health. Potential problems can be spotted early and treated. The risk of conditions getting worse and becoming a real problem are greatly increased if these check ups are not undertaken. Health insurance for your child can mean the best start in life for your children.
