Dental Insurance - Something to Get Your Teeth Into!
Dental insurance might not be something that you consider when you are young and your teeth are healthy. As time goes on though, people might let their good teeth cleaning habits go, they might eat the wrong food, and just generally get older. Teeth problems will start to occur, and by that time, dental insurance premiums will be higher.
If and when you decide to take out a dental insurance policy, there are some things that you should consider before putting pen to paper.
Check the coverage of the proposal. Are you restricted where you could have your treatment, or is the type of treatment that you might need restricted. Remember, the cheapest policy is not necessarily the best one. By the same token, the most expensive policy might not be the best either, so take a look around and evaluate all of the options.
Check that you are not covered solely for emergency work. Your check-ups, X-rays and cleaning should be covered too. With proper preventative care, the emergency work should never happen. Being woken with an abscess in the middle of the night is no fun, believe me.
Check for exclusions and for excesses. Will you have to stump up any part of the treatment? Such clauses are common in most types of insurance, and the higher the excess, the lower the premium. There will come a point, however, when the excess itself would be prohibitive should you have to pay it, and this would of course negate the benefit of the policy.
Why not check with your employer and see if they have any sponsored plans that you might benefit from. You might find that such a plan would be considerably cheaper than an equivalent plan on the open market.
